Why this page exists
Almost nobody documents this, and in Calgary it decides jobs.
Ubiquiti publishes an operating temperature range for every camera and every Access device. It is on the spec page. It is not on the product page, it is not in the marketing, and it is not in the box. Most installers never read it, because in most of the markets these products are sold into it never matters.
Here it matters twice a year, hard.
The finding that surprises everyone: the UA-Hub-Door is rated 0 to 40 °C. It does not go below freezing. Ubiquiti’s flagship door controller has no sub-zero rating at all. Neither does the UA-Hub-Door-Mini, the EAH-8, or the Intercom Viewer.
Meanwhile the UA-Hub-Gate — the one for outdoor gates — is rated −30 to 60 °C. Ubiquiti knows exactly what it is doing. The door hub is an indoor product and the gate hub is an outdoor one, and the only place they say so is a spec row nobody reads.
This is not a defect and it is not a warning about danger. It is a design constraint, published by the manufacturer, that determines where the box goes. Put the door hub inside the heated envelope and it is an excellent product.
How to read the ratings
1. Where a device publishes two ranges, the narrower one wins. Several Access devices publish a device rating and a separate, warmer display rating. The display is part of the product. A reader rated −30 °C with a display rated −10 °C is a −10 °C product for any purpose that involves looking at the display.
2. “Effective minimum” in these tables is the most limiting published component. It is not our estimate. It is the highest of the minimums Ubiquiti published for that device.
3. −30 °C is the Calgary bar. Calgary reaches −30 °C in most winters, and colder in some. A device rated to −20 °C is not broken at −25 °C — it is outside its published operating range, which means the manufacturer makes no claim about it and neither will we.
4. A rating is not a promise about wind chill, and none of these are ratings for direct heat load. The upper bound matters on a south wall behind glass more often than people expect.

Read the UA-G3-Pro row twice. Ubiquiti did not hide this — they published two ranges, plainly. But a reader whose display stops at −10 °C is, on a Calgary exterior door, a keypad you cannot see for four months of the year. The device is fine. The product is not, for that placement.
Will it survive a Calgary winter?

These carry a published rating at or below −30 °C. That is the only group we will hang outdoors, unheated, without a caveat.

Every one of these is rated below freezing but not to −30 °C. Calgary reaches −30 °C most winters. Mounting these outdoors means operating outside the manufacturer’s published range on the coldest days of the year — which is a decision, not an accident. Sheltered, heated or garage-side placement keeps them inside spec.

Where the ratings simply don’t exist
Coverage is not uniform, and the holes are in a revealing pattern.

Not one switch and not one access point publishes an operating temperature. Forty-eight products, zero ratings. Only 2 of 15 gateways publish one — the UCG-Industrial (−30 to 50 °C, fanless, ruggedized) and the UDR-5G-Max (0 to 40 °C).
That is a real hole and we are not going to fill it with a plausible-sounding number.
What we can say honestly:
- For switches and most gateways it matters less than it sounds, because they live indoors in a rack or a cupboard by definition. If your switch is seeing −30 °C you have a bigger problem than the spec sheet. Notably, the one gateway Ubiquiti built for rough environments is the one it bothered to rate — the UCG-Industrial is fanless and rated to −30 °C, and that is not a coincidence.
- It matters much more for access points, because U7 Outdoor, U7 Pro Outdoor, E7 Campus and E7 Audience are sold as outdoor products — and Ubiquiti publishes no temperature rating for any of them. If an outdoor AP’s cold rating is a requirement for your job, that is a question for Ubiquiti and the answer needs to be in writing. We will not guess it for you.
- Unheated garages, sheds, attics and outbuildings are the real risk, because that is where people put switches without thinking about it. A shed at −25 °C is outside every published rating we hold — because for a switch there is no published rating to be outside of.
The one place Ubiquiti does rate its outdoor gear properly
The bridging and connectivity range publishes a temperature for all 8 of its products, and the outdoor ones are rated seriously:
- U5G-Max-Outdoor — −40 to 65 °C, IPX6 (IP67 with the cable-gland door kit). The widest range in the entire catalogue.
- UDB-Pro — −40 to 60 °C, IPX6, wind loading published at 69 N at 200 km/h.
- UDB-Switch — −30 to 40 °C.
And the indoor ones are rated honestly as indoor: U5G at 0 to 40 °C, U5G-Max at 0 to 40 °C, UTR at −10 to 40 °C, U-AirWire at −10 to 40 °C, UDB-IoT at −10 to 50 °C.
Same pattern as the door hub and the gate hub. Ubiquiti builds an indoor variant and an outdoor variant, rates them accurately, and puts the distinction in the one row nobody reads. U5G-Max and U5G-Max-Outdoor are not “the same modem, weatherproofed” — one stops at 0 °C and the other goes to −40 °C.
The practical consequences
1. The door hub goes inside. Always. UA-Hub-Door at 0 °C means the controller lives in the heated envelope and only the reader goes outside. That is how the product is designed — the reader is rated −30 °C precisely so the hub doesn’t have to be.
2. Gate jobs use the gate hub, not the door hub. UA-Hub-Gate is −30 to 60 °C for exactly this reason. Substituting a door hub into an outdoor gate enclosure to save money puts a 0 °C-rated device in a −30 °C location.
3. Check the display rating before you specify a display. UA-G3-Pro (−10 °C), UA-Intercom (−25 °C), UVC-G6-Pro-Entry (−25 °C). All three have device ratings of −30 °C and displays that stop sooner.
4. The strike is rated −10 °C. The UACC-Lock-Strike-Secure-15mm is −10 to 60 °C, which is warmer than the −30 °C gate hub that can drive it. On a genuinely exterior door the strike is the limiting component, not the electronics.
5. On cameras, the split is close to a clean line — but not quite. Rated −30 °C or colder: all three G6 turrets (Turret, Pro Turret, Edge Turret), G6 PTZ, G6 Pro 360, G5 Turret Ultra, Doorbell Lite, G6 Entry, AI Turret, AI Dome, and the AI PTZ Industrial at −40 °C. Rated −20 °C: every bullet, every dome except the AI Dome, both multi-sensors, the AI LPR and the AI Pro. If the camera is going on an exposed north wall, the first list is the list — and note that the AI Dome is the one dome that makes it.
6. Nothing here is safety advice. These are operating ranges published by a manufacturer. How a door behaves in a fire, what your code requires, and what your insurer wants are all questions for people qualified to answer them. We install to the spec and we tell you what the spec says.
