Cameras, Calgary

You own the recordings. There is no monthly fee to watch your own footage.

Most camera companies sell you the hardware, then rent you access to what it recorded. UniFi Protect does not work that way. The recorder sits in your building and the footage is yours. Watching it costs nothing per month, for as long as you own it.

The question that decides everything

What do you need the footage to prove?

This is the only question that matters, and almost nobody gets asked it. The answer sets the resolution, the lens, the placement and the storage, in that order. Get it wrong and you end up with eight cameras and no footage you can use.

AWARENESS

That something happened

Someone was in the yard at 3am. A wide lens and modest resolution will do, and it is easy on storage. That is fine for most of a property.

IDENTIFICATION

A face you could recognise

The camera has to sit near head height, at a spot everyone has to walk through. High on a soffit, it only sees the top of a hat.

EVIDENCE

A licence plate

The hardest one. A tight lens, a narrow view, aimed at one spot where a car slows down. One camera doing this job well beats four doing it badly.

What you get before anything is mounted

Every camera placed on a plan, with the cone it actually sees.

  • A floor plan or site plan showing each camera and the exact area it sees.
  • We size the storage against how long you want footage kept. That is what picks the recorder and the drive.
  • We work out the PoE budget, which is the power the switch sends down the network cables, so it can run everything plugged into it.
  • The plan loads into your own UniFi console through InnerSpace, so the map stays useful after we leave.

Drives are always a separate line

Hard drives are not Ubiquiti products and never come with a recorder. We quote them on their own line, every time, so nobody finds the gap later.

The hardware

The cameras we quote most.

Prices are all-in CAD, hardware only, and they are the same figures you will see on our quote.

Not sure which? Which camera do I need walks through it in plain language.

Straight answers

Before you ask.

Can I see the cameras when I am away?

Yes, from the UniFi app, at no extra charge. Remote viewing is part of the system, not a paid add-on.

How many days of footage will I get?

It depends on how many cameras you have, the resolution, and how much movement there is. We size it from how long you want to keep footage, and we will tell you straight that any figure is an estimate. Ubiquiti publishes no retention formula, so anyone quoting you an exact number of days is guessing.

Do the cameras need their own network?

They should sit on their own segment, yes. Cameras sharing one flat network with everything else is one of the more common problems we get called in to fix.

Can you add cameras to a network I already have?

Often yes, and without replacing the gateway. That is one of the standard designs we work from.

Start with the plan.

Camera placements, coverage cones, storage sizing and a device list. We credit it against the install if you go ahead within 60 days.
