Three things, and the chime is the one people forget.
A cable at the door
One network cable to the doorbell. It carries power and video, so the old bell transformer can go. If there is no cable, the G4 Pro can run on the old bell wire, but that is the only one.
A PoE switch port
Doorbell Lite and G4 Pro kit run on standard PoE. The G6 Entry and Pro Entry need PoE+. Add it to the switch budget. See switches.
A chime and a recorder
The doorbell rings your phone, not the house. For a bell you can hear from the kitchen, add the PoE Smart Chime. Video is kept on a UniFi recorder you own, so there is no monthly fee.
Common questions.
Does it work with my old doorbell wire?
Only the G4 Doorbell Pro can run on the old 16 to 24 V bell wire. The others need a network cable that carries the power. We run that cable as part of the install.
Will it ring inside the house?
On its own it rings your phone. For a bell you hear from the kitchen, add the PoE Smart Chime. The G4 Pro kit includes one.
Is there a monthly fee?
No. Video records to a UniFi recorder you own. The app is free.
Can it open the door?
The G6 Entry and G6 Pro Entry can control a door lock. The Pro Entry also reads cards and fobs. For an apartment building with many suites, see the door access page.
