Drives, a switch and a gateway.
Hard drives
Recorders ship empty. We fit surveillance rated drives sized to your cameras and how many days you want to keep. More bays means more days, or more cameras, or both.
A PoE switch for the cameras
The cameras plug into a PoE switch, not the recorder. Count the cameras, add a few spare ports. See switches.
A gateway
The recorder runs Protect, but something has to run the network. Any UniFi gateway on our list. See gateways.
Common questions.
How many days of footage will I get?
It depends on the cameras, the resolution and the drives. As a rough guide, a UNVR with four 8 TB drives keeps about 30 days from 18 4K cameras. We size it on the site walk.
Do I need a recorder if my gateway runs Protect?
Small gateways like the Cloud Gateway Max run Protect with one drive. Past a handful of cameras, or when you want RAID, you want a recorder.
Do the drives come with it?
No. Recorders ship empty. We supply surveillance rated drives and set up the RAID.
Is there a monthly fee?
No. Protect runs on the recorder you own. No cloud storage bill.
