The customer is standing in front of the products, pointing. Here’s what to say.
Four conversations. Each one is a moment where the honest answer is not the obvious one — which is exactly why saying it earns you the trust that makes the rest of the sale easy.
1. The camera one — lead with this
The customer assumes the dome is “the good one.” It isn’t. Correcting that is the moment you win them.

Not similar. The same. Read the published specs side by side:

Identical sensor. Identical field of view. Identical infrared reach. Identical frame rate. Identical weather rating.
So what does the extra money buy?
The Dome buys exactly two changes, and one of them is a loss:
- Gains: IK10. The vandal-resistant rating. Nothing to grab, nothing to twist. That is the Dome’s entire argument.
- Loses: 10 °C of cold tolerance. The Turret is rated −30 to 50 °C. The Dome is rated −20 to 50 °C.
The line to say: “They see exactly the same picture, exactly as far into the dark. You’re choosing a housing, not a camera. Pick the shape that suits the mounting — and pick the Dome only if someone might actually hit it.”
Shape is about mounting and vandalism. It is not about picture quality. Under a soffit eight feet up where nobody can reach it, IK10 is a number they paid for and will never use.
Where the capability rung actually is
G6 → G6 Pro. That’s the step. The Pro line is where the picture genuinely changes: a 1/1.2″ sensor instead of 1/1.8″ (physically bigger, which is what gathers light), optical zoom instead of a fixed lens, and 40 m of infrared instead of 30. Below the Pro line you’re choosing furniture. Above it you’re choosing a camera.
One more thing worth knowing before they order: the G6 Dome comes in black and white, same as the Turret. So white turrets under a white soffit plus one white dome for the vandal-prone spot all matches. (If you’ve been told the Dome is black-only — that was our error, corrected 17 July 2026. UVC-G6-Dome-W is a real SKU.)
2. The gateway one — “buy it for the bay, not the speed”

The customer is looking at a wall of boxes that all look like routers. They will reach for the one with the biggest number on it. That number is almost always the wrong reason.
Everything below the UDM-Pro records 1–5 4K cameras. The UDM-Pro and up records 8–40. That step is the whole decision.
Why it bites: a modest house — front, back, both sides, garage, driveway — is six cameras. Six sails straight past everything below the UDM-Pro.
And the gateway is the one component you can’t add to. You can add switches. You can add access points. You can add cameras. There is exactly one brain, and when it’s full the upgrade path is buy a whole new brain — the original spend doesn’t get credited, it gets shelved.
The line to say
“Buy it for the bay, not the speed. If the building’s internet is 1 Gbps, a faster gateway isn’t the bottleneck and it never will be. What runs out is cameras.”
Don’t sell throughput. “1,000+ clients” is a number a home will never approach. Nobody has ever regretted buying a gateway for its drive bay. People regret buying one for its Gbps every week.
3. The Calgary one — the trust moment on a Canadian floor
This is a Canada-specific insight that no US-written Ubiquiti material will give them. Use it.
UA-Hub-Door is rated 0 to 40 °C. It does not go below freezing.
Read that again. Zero.

If the hub is mounted in an unheated vestibule, a garage, a gate pedestal — anywhere that sees a Calgary January — the Door Hub is outside its published rating for months of the year. The Gate Hub is rated for it.
In Canada that is the entire door decision. Not the relay count. Not the port count. Where does the hub physically live, and does it freeze? Ask it first, every time.
And the reader with the screen is the wrong reader outdoors
The UA-G3-Pro’s display is rated only to −10 °C, even though the device itself is rated to −30 °C. The UA-G3-Flex is rated −30 to 60 °C across the whole device — it’s the better outdoor reader and the cheaper one.
The line to say: “Before we talk about anything else — where’s the hub going to live? Because one of these doesn’t go below freezing, and that’s not a small print thing in this country.”
Then refer it. Doors are always an AVNFi conversation — locks, egress, and hardware that has to survive the winter. You’ve just proved you know what you’re talking about, and you get paid for handing it over. See Door Access.
4. The switch one — the difference is in the box, not on the sheet

USW-Ultra and USW-Ultra-210W share one spec sheet. Same ports, same features, same everything on paper. The difference is the adapter in the box.

42 W is three G6 Turrets at 12.5 W each, and you’re out. 202 W is sixteen.
That is the single most common way a UniFi camera job runs out of power on day one — and it’s invisible unless you read Ubiquiti’s conditional-budget footnote. Details in Switches and PoE.
The line to say: “These two are the same switch. The one that costs more comes with a power brick, and that brick is the difference between powering three cameras and powering sixteen. It’s not a trim level.”
The four lines to remember
- Cameras: Turret, Dome, Bullet — same camera, three housings. The Dome buys IK10 and loses 10 °C. The real rung is G6 → G6 Pro.
- Gateways: below the UDM-Pro is 1–5 4K cameras; UDM-Pro and up is 8–40. Buy it for the bay, not the speed.
- Doors: UA-Hub-Door is 0 to 40 °C. UA-Hub-Gate is −30 to 60 °C. Ask where the hub lives before anything else — then refer it.
- Switches: USW-Ultra vs USW-Ultra-210W is 42 W vs 202 W, and it’s the adapter in the box.
