The walls close once. Everything behind them is permanent.
We finished a new house this month. Nice house, not a cheap one. The low-voltage contractor had run Cat 5e everywhere, the camera cables were set into the wall with no slack and no box, and nobody had thought about where the equipment would live. It all works. It will also never be better than it is today, because fixing any of it means opening finished walls. None of that was the electrician being lazy. Nobody gave them a plan.
- The cable is the cheap part. A run of Cat 6A costs a few dollars more than Cat 5e. Getting it into a finished wall later costs a few hundred.
- The drop is only useful where it lands. An access point cable that ends in a closet, a camera cable that comes out beside the downspout, a TV drop on the wrong wall. All common, all permanent.
- How it finishes matters as much as where. A camera drop belongs in a box with a plate and a service loop, not bare out of the stucco. A TV drop belongs behind the TV in a recessed plate, not beside it.
- The rack needs a home. Power, cooling, a wall, and enough space to work. Decided on paper it costs nothing. Decided after possession it is a shelf in the furnace room.

The drop schedule
One line per run. Where it starts, where it ends, the cable type, how it terminates, and what it is for. This is the sheet the electrician quotes from and the sheet you check against at rough-in.
The rack and the spec
Where the equipment lives, the power and space it needs, and a one-page spec for the builder: cable grades, box types, plates, labelling and test requirements. Paste it into the scope and it becomes the standard.
Delivered as a PDF set within five business days of receiving the drawings, then a call to walk through it. Revisions for changes to the drawings are included until the walls close.

The checklist we work from.
Homes
- Two drops to every access point location, ceiling mounted, one per floor at least, and one for the yard.
- A drop to every TV wall, behind the TV, plus the room the TV might move to.
- Cameras at every entry, the driveway and the yard, in a box with a plate and a service loop.
- The doorbell, the garage and the gate on network cable, not just a bell wire.
- Conduit to the attic and to each exterior corner, so the next thing has a path.
- A rack location with power, on an interior wall, not the furnace room floor.
- Fibre to the shop or the suite if it is more than a garage away.
Commercial
- Two drops per desk, one per printer, one per meeting-room screen, phones on the same cable.
- Access points on the ceiling grid, placed by the walls and materials, not by floor area.
- Door hardware wiring for every controlled door: reader, hub, strike and the mechanical egress.
- Camera drops at entries, tills, stock rooms and the parking side.
- A proper telecom room or cabinet with dedicated power and a path to the demarc.
- Certified and labelled, with a test report handed over at occupancy.
- Sound masking or paging if the space needs it, cabled now rather than later.
Cat 6A, and why we specify it
Cat 5e carries one gigabit. Cat 6A carries ten, powers the newest access points and cameras without dropping speed, and costs a few dollars more per run. A house wired today should last thirty years. The cable is the one part you cannot upgrade later without opening walls, so it is the one part we do not compromise on.

Hand your buyer a low-voltage plan as part of the package. It closes the “can you add a cable here” conversations before framing and it is one less trade to manage. Our spec sheet drops straight into your scope.
Electricians
You pull the cable and terminate it, or we do. Either way you get a drop schedule to price from instead of designing low voltage on the fly. We stay on the phone for rough-in questions.
Designers and architects
A network, camera and audio layer on your drawings that looks like it belongs there. Recessed plates, hidden rack, no equipment on a shelf in the great room.

What we will and will not promise.
Is this the same as the $299 design assessment?
No. The assessment is a site visit to an existing building. A wiring plan is designed from your drawings before the building exists, and it produces documents your electrician builds from. If you are already in a finished house, you want Wire My House.
Do you have to do the install?
No. Your electrician can pull to the plan and we never come to site. Many do. If you want us to install, the plan fee comes off the install price within 60 days.
What if the drawings change?
Send the new set. Revisions for design changes are included until drywall. A different building is a new plan.
How late is too late?
If the electrician has not roughed in, it is not too late. If drywall is on, the plan becomes a retrofit design, which is the assessment route.
Do you specify equipment too?
The plan specifies the cable, boxes, plates and rack. Equipment is a separate conversation, because it is bought at possession and prices move. We include a recommended equipment list so the budget is known early.
Can you do this for a house outside Calgary?
Yes. The plan is designed from drawings and delivered by email, anywhere in Canada. The rough-in walkthrough is Calgary and area only.
