Every UniFi switch, side by side.

The switch is where every cable lands, and it is what powers the cameras, access points and doorbells down those cables. The number that matters is not the port count. It is the PoE budget: how many watts it can hand out. This page shows both, for every model.

The short answer

Three switches cover most buildings.

MOST HOMES

Ultra 210W

Eight ports, seven with PoE+, 202 W to hand out. Silent. Enough for a house full of cameras and Wi-Fi.

A SMALL OFFICE OR A BIG HOUSE

Pro 24 PoE

Twenty four ports, 400 W, 10 gigabit uplinks, rack mount. The standard business switch.

ONE MORE PORT AT THE DESK

Flex Mini

Five ports, no PoE, thirty nine dollars. Splits one cable into four at a desk or a TV.

Best for One cable arrives, four devices need it. Behind a TV, on a desk. A flat or a small shop with a couple of cameras and one access point. Most homes. Seven powered ports and 202 W is a house full of cameras and Wi-Fi. A small office with lots of desks and only a few powered devices. An office with many desks and a handful of cameras or access points. A big office where most ports feed desks, not cameras. A small business or a large house. Twenty four powered ports, 400 W, room to grow. A business putting in Wi-Fi 7 access points that can use 2.5 gigabit. A building floor. Forty eight powered ports and 600 W. The middle of a large network, feeding other switches over fibre. Not for cameras. A bigger core. Thirty two 2.5 gigabit ports and sixteen 10 gigabit. A data centre or campus core. Far beyond any building we would put UniFi in.

Step by step

What the next dollar buys you.

Read down the list. Each line is what you gain by moving up one model.

  1. $39 all-in

Step up to Lite 8 PoE: +$121 Four ports that power things and 52 W. The first switch here that can run a camera.

  2. $160 all-in

Step up to Ultra 210W: +$147 Seven powered ports and 202 W. Four times the power for double the price.

  3. $307 all-in

Step up to Switch 16 PoE: +$155 Sixteen ports and a rack shape, but only 42 W. A step up in ports, a step down in power.

  4. $462 all-in

Step up to Switch 24 PoE: +$98 Twenty four ports and 95 W. Still a light PoE switch.

  5. $560 all-in

Step up to Switch 48 PoE: +$302 Forty eight ports and 195 W. Same story, twice the size.

  6. $862 all-in

Step up to Pro 24 PoE: +$163 The real business switch: 400 W with no conditions, PoE++ on eight ports, 10 gigabit uplinks, routing.

  7. $1,025 all-in

Step up to Pro Max 24 PoE: +$150 Eight 2.5 gigabit ports for Wi-Fi 7 access points, and PoE++ on all of them. Same 400 W.

  8. $1,175 all-in

Step up to Pro 48 PoE: +$442 Forty eight ports and 600 W, four fibre uplinks. When twenty four ports is truly full.

  9. $1,617 all-in

Step up to Enterprise Campus 24S: +$1,478 Campus gear: 2.5 and 10 gigabit ports everywhere, 25 and 100 gigabit uplinks. No PoE at all.

  10. Step up to Enterprise Campus 48S: +$1,544 Twice the ports.

  11. Step up to Enterprise Campus Core: +$3,097 Thirty two 100 gigabit ports. A data centre core.

  12. Top of the line on this page.

How to size a switch

Add up the watts, then add a third.

1

Count the powered devices

Every camera, access point, doorbell and phone draws from the switch. A G6 Turret is 12.5 W. A U7 Pro is 21 W. An E7 is 43 W. Write them down and add them up.

2

Check the budget, not the ports

A 48 port switch with 195 W is 4 W a port. Eight cameras and four access points is about 200 W on their own. Buy for watts first, ports second. Access point watts, camera watts.

3

Leave room

Devices draw more when they boot and when it is cold. Keep a third of the budget spare, and the next camera you add will not mean a new switch.

Before you ask

Common questions.

How many watts do I need?

Add up the devices. A G6 Turret is 12.5 W, a G6 Dome 9.25 W, a U7 Pro 21 W, a G6 Entry doorbell 16 W, an E7 43 W. Then add a third for headroom. A house with six cameras and two access points is about 120 W, which the Ultra 210W handles with room.

What is the difference between PoE, PoE+ and PoE++?

How much power one port can send. PoE is 15 W, PoE+ is 30 W, PoE++ is 60 W. Most cameras and access points want PoE or PoE+. The E7 access point and some big gear want PoE++. The table shows what each switch can do per port.

Do I need 10 gigabit?

Not in a house. In an office with a 10 gigabit gateway and a lot of traffic between floors, the Pro line uplinks earn their keep. Otherwise gigabit ports and a 2.5 gigabit uplink for Wi-Fi 7 is plenty.

Do you install these?

Yes. We rack it, patch and label every cable, set up the network and hand you the map. Book a design assessment and the fee comes off the install.
