Client handbook, section 7 of 10

CyberSecure. What it adds, what it costs, and when to say no.

CyberSecure is an optional yearly subscription from Ubiquiti. Your system does not need it. Everything else in this handbook works without it. Read this page before you turn it on, so you know what you are buying.

What it does

Open Network > Settings > CyberSecure and you will see two levels: Standard (Free), which every console has, and Enhanced, which is the paid subscription. Enhanced makes protection a lot stronger:

  • A much bigger threat list. It watches for many more known attacks, viruses and scams, and the list is updated every week by Proofpoint, a large security company.
  • Better website filtering. The free filter blocks the obvious bad stuff. CyberSecure’s version, from Cloudflare, sorts the web into over 100 categories you can block one by one (gambling, social media, adult content, and so on).

How much of the threat list your console can run depends on the model. Bigger consoles run more of it.

What it costs

One yearly subscription per console, billed by Ubiquiti, not AVNFi. Ubiquiti sets the price and it can change, so check the current price in the Ubiquiti store before you buy, or ask us. It needs remote access turned on, which only the Owner can do.

What can go wrong: false alarms

A stronger filter sometimes blocks something it should not. A game console that will not connect, a work app, a website you use every day.

This is normal and fixable:

  • Check the security alerts in the Network app to see what was blocked and why.
  • A wrongly blocked website can be added to the allow list.
  • A wrongly blocked device or service needs that one rule switched off. Call us for this one; it is easy to switch off too much.

You can also set Detection Mode to Notify first, instead of Notify and Block. It tells you what it would have blocked, without blocking anything. A week in Notify mode shows you whether it suits your household.

Should you turn it on?

It is your call. Here is how we think about it:

It makes sense if It may not be worth it if
You run a business, or handle client or patient data. It is a simple home network.
You want fine control over what websites the family can reach. The free Basic filter and app blocking already do what you need.
You want the strongest protection your console can give. You would rather never deal with a false alarm.

How to turn it on

  1. Sign in at unifi.ui.com as the Owner.
  2. Click the shield icon for your site and follow the steps to subscribe.
  3. Allow about 15 minutes for it to switch on.

If you change your mind, cancel it the same way. Your network keeps working exactly as before.
