Sonos
Sonos sound, Calgary

Sonos in every room. Installed on a network that keeps it playing.

AVNFi supplies and installs Sonos for Calgary homes and businesses: speakers hidden in the ceiling, a soundbar and sub for the TV, music on the deck, and one app for all of it. We build networks for a living, and the network is what keeps Sonos from dropping out.

Why it matters who installs it

Most Sonos problems are network problems.

Speakers that vanish from the app, music that stutters, a group that will not stay together. More often than not the speaker is fine and the network is not. Sonos depends on settings most home routers and many installers never touch.

  • Wired where it counts. Amps, soundbars and the speakers that matter are cabled to the switch, not left to fight for Wi-Fi.
  • Wi-Fi tuned for Sonos. The multicast, spanning tree and band settings Sonos asks for, set on purpose on your UniFi network.
  • One network, not two. Phones and speakers on the same network so the app always finds them, and smart-home gear kept where it cannot get in the way.
  • PoE where it fits. Era 100 Pro ceiling speakers run on a single network cable from the switch: power and music, no amplifier.
What we install

The whole Sonos range, for every room.

Architectural speakers, hidden in the build

In-ceiling speakers

Sonos architectural speakers, made with Sonance, in 6 and 8 inch sizes. Flush, paintable grilles, round or square, tuned by Sonos for the room they are in.

In-wall speakers

Slim in-wall speakers for media rooms, kitchens and offices, with a paintable magnetic grille that disappears into the wall.

Outdoor speakers

Weather-sealed outdoor speakers built for Calgary winters and summer decks, in black or white.

Era 100 Pro

Sonos’s installer-only ceiling and wall speaker powered by PoE. One network cable per speaker, no amplifier, no rack space.

Amp

Powers a pair of passive speakers, or up to three pairs of Sonos architectural speakers, with an HDMI input for the TV. Rack or shelf mounted.

Amp Multi and Port

Amp Multi drives eight speaker outputs across four zones from one rack unit, for whole-home installs. Port brings Sonos streaming to an existing amplifier or receiver.

Home theatre

Arc Ultra

Sonos’s flagship Dolby Atmos soundbar, for the main living room and the big screen.

Beam Ultra and Beam

Dolby Atmos soundbars for mid-size rooms, wall-mounted below the TV.

Ray

The compact soundbar for a bedroom, den or office TV.

Sub 4 and Sub Mini

Wireless subwoofers that add the low end to any soundbar or Amp.

Surrounds

A pair of Era speakers or in-ceiling speakers behind the couch turns a soundbar into true surround sound.

Mounting done right

Soundbar and TV mounted together, cables in the wall, and the soundbar connected by HDMI eARC so the TV remote just works.

Speakers, portables and headphones

Era 100, Era 100 SL and Era 300

Shelf speakers for any room. Era 300 adds spatial audio; Era 100 SL has no microphones for rooms where you would rather have none.

Five

Sonos’s largest speaker, with a line-in for a turntable.

Move 2, Sonos Play and Roam 2

Battery portables that play on Wi-Fi at home and Bluetooth away from it, from the garage to the campsite.

Sonos Ace and Ace Ultra

Noise-cancelling headphones that take the TV sound from a Sonos soundbar, for late-night watching.

How it all connects

Music, lights and shades on the same buttons.

Lutron

Sonos with Lutron

A Lutron Pico remote on the wall runs any Sonos speaker: play, pause, skip, volume and your favourite station. A Lutron scene can dim the lights, lower the shades and start the music together. See Lutron lighting control.

Your music, your way

One Sonos app for the whole house, plus Apple AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect straight from your phone, and Amazon Alexa voice control on supported speakers.

How a Sonos job runs

Planned room by room, tuned before we leave.

  • Design. We walk the space and choose speakers, positions and amplification room by room, inside and out.
  • Wire. Speaker wire and network cable to every location, ideally before drywall, or fished into finished walls.
  • Install. Speakers cut in, soundbars and TVs mounted, amps racked, every cable labelled.
  • Network. UniFi switching and Wi-Fi set to Sonos’s requirements, wired players on the right ports.
  • Tune. Trueplay tuning and level matching so every room sounds right, not just loud.
  • Hand over. The app on every phone, rooms named, groups and favourites set, and one number to call afterwards.

Building or renovating? Wire for sound now.

Speaker wire to the ceiling and a network cable behind the TV cost very little while the walls are open. Add them to your pre-drywall wiring plan even if the speakers come later.

Questions

What people ask before a Sonos install.

Why does my Sonos keep dropping out?

Usually the network. Mesh extenders, a guest or separate network for the speakers, a switch that does not handle spanning tree the way Sonos needs, or multicast settings left on default. We fix the network first, and the speakers usually behave.

Can you add to the Sonos I already own?

Yes. New speakers join your existing system and app. If the existing system is unreliable, we look at the network while we are there.

Do I need an amplifier for ceiling speakers?

Passive in-ceiling and in-wall speakers need a Sonos Amp or Amp Multi in a rack or closet. Era 100 Pro speakers run on PoE from the network switch and need no amplifier.

Will outdoor speakers survive a Calgary winter?

Sonos outdoor speakers are weather-sealed and rated for outdoor use year round. We mount them under the eaves out of direct snow and run the wire inside the wall.

Does it work with Apple AirPlay and Spotify?

Yes. Current Sonos speakers support AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect, and play from the Sonos app with most streaming services.

What does it cost?

It depends on how many rooms, which speakers, and how much wiring is needed. A design visit produces a fixed quote with every Sonos part listed.

Tell us where you want the music.

Which rooms, inside and out, whether there is a TV to build around, and whether the walls are open. That is most of the design settled before we arrive.
