Wi-Fi management. Change the password, add a network, share guest Wi-Fi.
All of this lives in the Network app under Settings > WiFi.
Change the Wi-Fi password
- Open Network > Settings > WiFi.
- Click the network you want to change.
- Type the new Password (8 characters or more).
- Click Apply Changes at the bottom.
What happens next: every device on that network drops off. Each one has to be told the new password. The ones people forget are the TV, the printer, the thermostat, the doorbell chime, and anything smart in the kitchen. If you have a lot of those, pick a quiet evening.
Add a new Wi-Fi network
- Network > Settings > WiFi, then click Create New under the list.
- Give it a Name and a Password.
- Leave the rest as it is.
That is genuinely it. Ubiquiti’s defaults are tuned for the best speed and roaming. The other options (bands, security modes, MAC filters, network assignment) are where Wi-Fi problems get made. If you need a network for something special, like a device that only works on 2.4 GHz, call us and we will set it up in five minutes.
Share guest Wi-Fi the right way
Do not give out your main password. Anyone who has it can see the devices on your network, and you cannot take it back without changing it for everyone.
Instead, use the guest network. If we set up your system, you most likely already have one. It keeps visitors on the internet and away from your cameras, computers and everything else.
- Give guests the guest network name and password.
- Change the guest password whenever you like. Only guests are affected.
- If you do not see a guest network in your WiFi list, ask us. Setting one up properly involves the parts of the system we keep off-limits in What not to touch, and why, so it is a job for us.
Turn a Wi-Fi network off at set times
Useful for a kids’ network, or a guest network you only want on when people visit. Each network has a WiFi Blackout Schedule that switches it off for the hours you pick, every day or only on the days you choose. Parental controls and scheduling walks through it.
If you want a one-tap on and off switch on your phone instead, call us and we will set one up that suits your system.
