Client handbook

Your UniFi system, in plain words. Do the everyday jobs yourself.

This is the handbook we give our clients, and anyone else running UniFi is welcome to it. It covers the jobs you should never have to wait on us for: adding people, changing the Wi-Fi, adding a door card, pulling a camera clip. Nothing held back.

The ten sections

1. Welcome to your UniFi console

How to reach your UniFi console from your phone or computer, what the Network, Protect, Access and Talk apps do, and where the settings live.

2. Users and access

How to add a spouse, an employee or a contractor to your UniFi system, what Owner and Super Admin mean, and how to remove or re-add your installer.

3. Wi-Fi management

How to change a UniFi Wi-Fi password, add a new Wi-Fi network, share guest Wi-Fi safely, and switch a network off on a schedule.

4. Parental controls and scheduling

How to block apps like Roblox or Snapchat on UniFi, filter adult websites, and set a Wi-Fi blackout schedule, plus what network blocking cannot do.

5. UniFi Access

How to add a person in UniFi Access, enroll an NFC card or fob, give someone a PIN or a phone key, and shut off a lost card the same day.

6. UniFi Protect

How to read the UniFi Protect timeline, search for people and vehicles, and export a clip the right way for police or an insurance claim.

7. CyberSecure

What UniFi CyberSecure blocks, how it is billed, why false alarms happen, and how to decide whether your home or business needs it.

8. Everyday maintenance

How to restart UniFi gear safely, what never to unplug, what update prompts and alerts mean, and how to tell an internet outage from a network fault.

9. Before you call us

Three quick checks that fix most UniFi network problems at home or work, and what to have ready if you still need to call for support.

10. What not to touch, and why

Why VLANs, firewall rules and a few other UniFi settings are best left to your installer, and what to do if a change has already broken something.

How to use this handbook

What is in it

Step-by-step instructions for the UniFi Network, Protect and Access apps, written for owners, not technicians. Each section is one page. Read the one you need.

What is left out, on purpose

VLANs and firewall rules. One wrong change there can quietly break things that look unrelated. Here is why, and what to do instead.

Ubiquiti updates its apps often, so a menu may move. If a step does not match your screen, call (587) 858-4888 and we will walk you through it, and fix the page.
