Remote UniFi Gateway Setup

Description

You bought the gateway. It is plugged in and the internet works. What it is not doing is any of the things you bought it for: separate networks for your family, your guests, your cameras and your smart devices, firewall rules that keep those apart, threat protection switched on, clean Wi-Fi settings, working remote access, and backups you can restore from.

This is that work, done remotely. You invite us into your UniFi console as an admin, we build it out, we hand it back with a written summary, and you stay the owner of the console the whole time.

What gets set up

• Firmware and updates. Console and every adopted device brought current, with an auto-update window set for overnight.
• Internet connection. WAN configured for your provider, including PPPoE or a static IP, IPv6 where your provider supports it, and failover if you have a second line.
• Networks and VLANs. Separate networks for main, guest, IoT and cameras, with DHCP ranges, reservations for the devices that need a fixed address, and sensible names.
• Firewall rules. Guest and IoT cannot reach your main network. Cameras stay off the internet. Rules written so they still make sense in a year.
• Threat protection. IPS or IDS enabled at the right sensitivity for your line speed, ad and tracker blocking, and country blocking if you want it.
• Wi-Fi. SSIDs mapped to the right networks, band steering, minimum data rates, channel widths and transmit power set for your access points. Applies to the UniFi access points already on site.
• Switches and PoE. Adopted, named, port profiles applied, ports labelled so the next person knows what is plugged in where.
• Cameras, doorbells and door readers already on site adopted, named and put on the right network. Recording settings and retention reviewed.
• Remote access. Your console reachable from the UniFi app and site manager, admin accounts tidied, two factor turned on, unused accounts removed.
• DNS and port forwarding. UPnP off, forwards only where something genuinely needs one, dynamic DNS if you need a stable name.
• Backups and alerts. Automatic config backup on, a copy of the backup file sent to you, and notifications set so you hear about an outage before your users do.
• A written handover. One page: what was changed, what is on each network, the Wi-Fi names, and what to do if you need to change something later.

What we need from you

• A Ubiquiti gateway or console that is online and adopted to your own Ubiquiti account. UCG, UDM, UDR, UXG and Cloud Key all work.
• An admin invite to the console. Ubiquiti site manager, Admins, Invite admin. You can remove it the moment we are done.
• Your internet details if the connection needs credentials or a static IP.
• A window where a short reboot is acceptable. Some changes drop the connection for a minute.

What is not included

• Hardware. You buy it, you pay the Ubiquiti price, we add nothing.
• Any on-site work, cabling, mounting or device replacement. If the setup turns out to need hands on site, we tell you and quote it separately.
• Rescuing a network that is failing because of wiring or a faulty device. Remote configuration cannot fix a bad cable.
• Support from your internet provider. We will tell you what to ask them for.
